Inspired by The Stone Roses: Ian Brown "Adored" Football Shirt
Inspired by the Pollock-esque paint splashes, particularly the monochrome artwork on the "Made of Stone" single cover—a song from their eponymous first album. Parodying the typography of a certain sports brand is the main sponsor "adored". Our shirt features an embroidered badge in the shape of a lemon slice. The lemon iconography is our favourite bit of Stone Roses lore: in 2001 John Squire told Q magazine: "Ian [Brown] had met this French man when he was hitching around Europe. This bloke had been in the riots, and he told Ian how lemons had been used as an antidote to tear gas." The lemon then became a symbol of protest.
On the back, we have Brown, for Ian Brown (obviously), and 89, the year of their first album release. At the bottom of the shirt is the phrase "Bye Bye Badman", the song that references the riots in Paris in May 1968, and the lemon that would eventually become a key part of The Stone Roses' iconography.
This shirt has been produced by Sigur Sportswear for TShirtsUnited.
